1. What is IRS Form 990?
Form 990 is an annual information return filed by certain tax-exempt organizations, nonexempt charitable trusts, and section 527 political organizations to report the information required by Section 6033 to the IRS.

2. Who must file IRS Form 990?
Organizations with gross receipts higher than or equal to $200,000 and total assets higher than or equal to $500,000 must file IRS Form 990.
Other Variants of Form 990:
For organizations whose gross receipts and assets don’t fall within the range mentioned above, and for organizations with a single primary source of the contribution, there are other variants of the 990 form available such as:

3. When is the deadline to file Nonprofit tax Form 990?
Nonprofits and exempt organizations must file the 990 by the 15th day of the 5th month after the end of the accounting period.
The organization that operates under a Calendar Tax Year (which means the tax year ends on December 31) must file Form 990 on or before May 15.

5. Additional Requirements For Form 990
990 Schedules:
The organizations filing Form 990 may also be required to report additional information to the IRS by attaching 990 Schedules with their main form.

6. Is there an extension for Form 990?

7. What are the penalties for late filing or incorrect filing of Nonprofit Form 990?
The IRS may impose penalties on organizations if they fail to file Form 990 within the deadline or if they fail to provide correct information on their form.
Unless the organization provides a proper reason for the delay, the IRS imposes a penalty for each day after the due date of the return until it is filed.
8. Automatic revocation of tax-exempt status
